Agent read timeout due to high ram usage on server
Posted by: sorin-mihai - 10-20-2022, 08:39 PM - Forum: Problems - No Replies

Hi. If the same problem or a similar one has been discussed in other threads, I apologize, kindly point me to the correct thread if possible.

I tried multiple server sizes, exposed to internet and behind cloudflare, TLS on both ends, at cloudflare and between cloudflare and the server, about 100 agents, hashtopolis 0.12.0+275, agents mostly s3-python-, but some s3-python-

Initially used Apache with mod-php, then NGINX with php-fpm, php7.4, configs almost defaults, standard packages from Ubuntu 20.04, then tried NGINX with php-fpm, configs almost defaults, but this time with standard packages from Ubuntu 22.04. When trying Ubuntu 22.04, database got "upgraded" but didn't attempt downgrade. Moved to a split server setup, Apache in one, database in another.

Initial setup seemed ok and agents were added one by one, a few small tasks were tested and completed in the first few days, then a large brute force was started and more agents added. All seemed fine, but after a while the UI started to be very slow, so I moved to NGINX and php-fpm thinking that maybe NGINX will be faster.

After reaching about 100 agents and after running for over a week, the UI became slow again, taking up to 15-20 seconds to load the page of the active task were all agents are assigned. The exact same page, with exact same number of agents used to load in 2-3 seconds a day before this started. Tried tweaking parameters in php-fpm but no luck. During the tweaking attempts, the UI stopped working completely and the agents started to not be able to connect, while NGINX kept throwing 499 errors.

Switched back to Apache and mod-php in an attempt to get somehow closer to the defaults in order to debug. After trying different things in both php and NGINX configs and even at sysctl level, and after increasing the server capacity to 32cpu/128gb ram, I still can't get a working UI and the agents can't connect.

On server
==> /var/log/apache2/error.log <==
[edited time] [php7:notice] [pid 46478] [client editedIP:PORT] PHP Notice:  Trying to access array offset on value of type null in /var/www/html/api/server.php on line 17

==> /var/log/apache2/access.log <==

edited IP - - [edited time] "POST /api/server.php HTTP/1.1" 200 396 "-" "s3-python-"

On client

[edited time] [ERROR] Error occurred: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='edited', port=443): Read timed out. (read timeout=30)
[edited time] [ERROR] Failed to get file status!
[edited time] [INFO ] Got task with id: 29

[edited time] [INFO ] Got cracker binary type hashcat
[edited time] [ERROR] Error occurred: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='edited', port=443): Read timed out. (read timeout=30)
[edited time] [ERROR] Failed to get chunk!

At client side it just keeps increasing the log file, nothing concerning for the moment, but at server side it keeps spawning threads and using ram until it reaches max and then starts swapping.

Any recommendations for large amount of agents, for specific changes in the configs of apache/nginx or php.ini or maybe at sysctl level?
Any specific versions of php/apache known to work properly by default with large amount of agents?

  How to enable Yubikey functionality
Posted by: dviper22 - 10-14-2022, 10:20 PM - Forum: Howto - No Replies

First I wanted to express my complements to the development team for producing a really slick product.

I wanted to enable Yubikey OTP functionality, but can't figure out what to change or update to enable the functionality.  I have entered my Yubikey information on the config, server, Yubikey section.  Aside from that I have dug through the files in the hashtopolis directories, but still nothing.

Can anyone provide me with information on enabling Yubikey?  Thank you in advance for you time and information.

Finished chunk

hashtopolis 0.12.0

  hashtopolis for one target
Posted by: billy_vonka - 08-29-2022, 12:48 PM - Forum: Howto - Replies (2)

Hello, I can't find any information on my question, I hope you can help me. I recently encountered a situation where I need to use a brute force method to spot attack a hash. The hash brute force method is slow. And to get a positive result, I found several ways.
1. Increase the server performance. Thus reducing the waiting time for the decryption.
2. Increase the number of agents for hashtopolis, thereby creating a large and powerful pool.

I want to use the second option. The method of splitting tasks, where each agent performs its own task, is not suitable. I need all agents to work on calculating the hash, and their performance is summed. At the same time, so that each agent knows and does not use the "failed" attempts of other agents in a given session. The principle of work is similar to the work of miners in a common pool, to solve the hash of a bitcoin block.

Can you tell me, at the moment hashtopolis can cope with such a task? If so, please give information how I can implement this method of attack.

  Use Optimized Kernel
Posted by: lscyber - 08-16-2022, 07:34 PM - Forum: Problems - Replies (2)

I'm new here so I apologize for any "dumb" questions I may have.

Hashtopolis version: 0.12.0
Hashcat version: 6.2.4

I've been working on creating a mask+wordlist task but there seems to be something either I'm doing wrong or an issue with hashtopolis. I'm testing this out on a single NTLM hash. The command I'm running is -a7 -w4 #HL# ?a wordlist.txt which does seem to work, however it takes about 12 hours for it to complete. The system I'm using has 8 2080TIs so there should be no reason why it takes that long for the task to finish. When I SSH to the system and run hashcat manually with hashcat.bin -m 1000 -a7 -w4 hash.txt ?a wordlist.txt it completes in about 7 hours which still seems like a long time, but when I add the -O to use optimized kernels it finishes in about 40 minutes. My question is when I try to add the -O to the hashtopolis command, -a7 -w4 -O #HL# ?a wordlist.txt and I look at the agent status, it ends up saying Agent Error. Is there a way that you can specify hashtopolis to use optimized kernels or am I just doing something wrong? The wordlist I'm using is 115GB so I know it's very large and will take some time to get through but I feel like it should be quicker than 12 hours since running it with hashcat manually is much quicker.

  HealthCheck fails
Posted by: HairyMass - 07-30-2022, 03:00 PM - Forum: Problems - Replies (1)

Hello everbody,

I'm very new to Hashtopolis, but I found the project marvelous!

I discovered the GIT this morning, and then I setup an environment on AWS.

Wanted to test if it's possible to run the Agents on containers and somehow I'm able to register one from another machine with Docker (following this git: https://github.com/socketz/hashtopolis-docker-agent)

Unfortunately when I launche a healthcheck to verify that the setup is running here is the error I get:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

  ACL for preconfigured tasks
Posted by: l4d1d4 - 07-21-2022, 01:56 PM - Forum: Hashtopolis - No Replies

Hi there,
is there a way which I might have missed to restrict a group to only see a subset of available preconfigured tasks?
The background is that we would like to configure groups of users that are only able to run specific cracking tasks e.g. fast runs against a simple password list to free the cracking resources asap while other groups should be able to start long running preconfigured tasks.
Any idea?
Thx in advance
