Do I need to use a m.2 nvme drive for the mysql data base or will a sata ssd be ok. I have a cluster with 6 rigs each has 6 gpus.

In general the server runs on pretty much everything quite good. For 6 rigs a database running on SSD definitely should be more than enough. An important factor for MySQL also is that it has enough RAM to use, then it's pretty fast anyway.
